It's Friday again, and here are the answers from Tuesday's trivia. How many of them did you get right? Let me know in the comments below!
Harold Godwinson - It's not just another King of England that needed a mention. Harold Godwinson was the last Anglo-Saxon King of England and the successor to Edward the Confessor, who later became a saint. Harold was not only the namesake of one of the characters (Harold Morrow), but his supposed fate touched one of the characters in From Across the Sea. At the Battle of Hasting in October 1066 against William the Conqueror, Harold was said to have taken an arrow to the eye. While he did not survive the battle, Harold Morrow the character shot the fated arrow. In the fictional world, it missed its target.
Luxury Goods - There were a few admissions to luxury items in the books. One of them was cocoa and the other cannabis. Cocoa is the base ingredient for chocolate obviously. Cannabis is marijuana, a Schedule 3 drug with medicinal qualities. In various times in history, even now, we anxiously await for the goods to come from another country. i.e. imports and exports. They could be exotic goods from another country, or an illegal substance. The high prices and relief they bring were partially because of a black market, but that's another story.
M*A*S*H - The TV show, not the movie or the books. I know that I have referenced specific examples in the past, but I chose the entity because of the sheer amount I used in one book. Throughout Revolution, there were several references to small towns, e.g. Swite and Alda. They came from the characters and actors from that TV show. M*A*S*H was one of the TV shows I watched as a kid and it has remained one of my favorites too. It's not just about a front line unit during the Korean War. It's alcoholism, selfishness, relationships, longing and much, much more, all packed into a sitcom.
That's it, everyone. Have a great weekend. Namaste!
