Here are the answers for this last edition (until September anyway) of #FindOut Friday! Which ones did you get correct? Comment below.
American Colonialism - It has happened. We were once colonies, and then as a country, we took control over many other places - Guam, Virgins Islands, Puerto Rico, etc. Klenard and Tommel were based on this system. While it had been said to be a compromise between two brothers, much of the rules imposed upon Tommel were half-independent, half-controlled, and its real counterparts were no different. Even today, the US has control of five territories, and none of them are represented in Congress.
Catherine of Aragorn - Yes, back to Tudor history we go. A lot of us know that Catherine of Aragorn (1485-1536) was the first wife of Henry VIII of England (r. 1509-1547). Henry wanted to separate from her and marry Anne Boleyn, so that he could finally have a son. By 1529, Catherine only had a surviving daughter, Mary (1516-1558). Like the character of Alison in Revolution and From Across the Sea, Catherine experienced the loss of most of her children. The lack of a living son caused concern with the king, like with the fictional Ronald family, and it will come with severe consequences.
The Marx Brothers - Groucho, Gummo, Harpo, Chico and Zeppo were more than just inspiration for what we saw on TV growing up. The antics of the Marx Brothers were my inspiration for the fictional Morrow Brothers, the pirates Allen, Constantine and Harold. Their quick-fire replies, the crazy schemes and the hilarious tricks mirrored their fictional counterparts. While the Marx Brothers entertained during wars, the Morrows played theirs while they fought directly in the war. And who can resist brotherly love?
Have a great weekend. Namaste!
