It's that season again - everybody is going back to school. And this Friday, we have your answers to Tuesday's trivia. Which ones did you get right? Shout out in the comments below!

1. The Arts - The endless jokes and the lack of jobs color this reference. The arts are often defined as those beyond the normal scope of commercialism - artists, authors, dancers, historians, etc. They are the people who capture the small details of life and record it. They dig for the truth and use a media to record their findings. In From Across the Sea, one character talked to the narrator, Victoria Ronald, about the arts. He claimed to her that her homeland was full of dreamers and doers and it was destroyed with the choice of war. Even in this dark time, we still look to the arts to guide us.

2. Calendar and Holidays - One of the things in world building is time, climate and holidays. I decided to mostly base my calendar and the holidays on paganism and Christian standards, putting full seasons instead of naming months. As the series developed, though, I had to consider other options, such as the times before the story began and how it was structured and what to call it. There was generalized terms I created (much more about that later) and set holidays corresponding to each season, like Giving Season (Christmas/Yule) and Ostara (Easter). But what makes my calendar interesting: it begins with spring and goes through summer, fall and then winter and then it's the next year.

3. Piracy - This one is always fun. I originally got my education about pirates through Hollywood. I heard historical rumors (of course, all of them twisted) and then I read the facts. Piracy was much different and more progressive than I realized! Pirates come from all backgrounds, most of them without a way to make a living. They "married" their fellow pirates (or made them heir in case they died), blundered for treasure, split proceeds, created ship rules and much, much more. Some were even screwed over by their governments and they had to turn to piracy to live. All of these factors worked their way into pirate life, most prominent in From Across the Sea. The characters weren't much different from their historical counterparts. In the upcoming novel, In Fiery Autumn Dress, this would also featured, as the characters set across the high seas to fight the enemy.
