Hey, everyone! Here are the answers to this week's #TriviaTuesday. How many did you get right? Let me know in the comments below!
Souvenirs - There are many mentions of souvenirs throughout the book series. The one I wanted to focus on was in From Across the Sea. Victoria heard rumors about the Demons of the Cross, a militant Christian group terrorizing the freed lands. One of them was that they liked using human skin as a coat and used ears as good luck charms. Soldiers from across all ages and wars always picked up souvenirs from the battles. A few examples that came to mind were the shrunken heads from World War II (Pacific theater) and the ears taken by soldiers in Vietnam.
Lesbos - By the name, you would guess that this was going to reference lesbians. You would be right. But it's also the name of a Greek island...and the inspiration of Stepnick. While the real Lesbos isn't the last stop for women, its name and its most famous resident (below) formed a sort of sanctuary in my head. While the exterior of my imagined place is remote and rocky, the interior was similar to the real island.
Sappho - Through the Meadow focused on the writings of a woman named The Swan. She was a woman who, under this name, relayed her life in a series of stories, essays and poems. Many women passed her words around in the hopes of giving understanding amidst Christian repression. For Sappho, the real poetess from Lesbos, her poetry was initially analyzed in the 19th century. Instead of relying on the ancient sources, the Victorians went sideways and used her poetry as proof of her life story. Whatever her story is, Sappho is an inspiration to women who knew they had power too.
That's it, everyone. Namaste, and have a great weekend!
