#FindOut Friday Answers 42

So far, so good. March is starting out ok. But something more exciting - the #TuesdayTrivia answers! Which ones did you get right? Let me know in the comments!

  1. "Sharia" Law - Explained in the Quran and the Hadiths, Shari'a isn't the extremist form we associate with it. Shari'a is the path society takes to implement Islam. It emphasizes taking care of the poor, providing money for education, being environmentally conscious, etc. What we associate "Sharia Law" with is the suppression of human rights and the complete dedication to leaders and a perverted version of Allah. This idea, though, is what I used in Through the Meadow, amongst other books in the series, as a way for many characters to experience privilege or silence. It is obvious who the law sides with, and it might not have been YOU.

  2. Salah - Known in the Islamic world as the prayers one says towards the direction of Mecca (Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha), Salah is part of the Five Pillars of Islam. If you've seen footage of men prostrating, kneeling, etc., on their mats, that's Salah. This was something I took for Through the Meadow. After the laws changed and devotion to God and authority were mandatory, the Christians were forced to pray a certain amount of times a day. They knelt and stood with the sound of the bell.

  3. Matilda of England - A story from this illustrious and misunderstood medieval leader became an inspiration to a small piece of Revolution. First, some background about Matilda: born in 1102, she was the daughter of King Henry I of England and Matilda of Scotland. She initially was sent to Germany to be the wife of the Holy Roman Emperor, Henry V, and spent a great portion of her life outside of England. However, upon the death of her brother, her father faced a succession crises and sought to make his daughter Queen Regent of England. Of course, that did not happen, but a daring escape caught my attention. Matilda slipped past her enemies in the dead of night, wearing only white to camouflage herself in the snow. Mary Sorrenti, a character in Revolution, did the same to escape danger.

That's it, everyone! Tune in next week for another episode of #BehindTheScenes where I talk about another aspect of my life, the writing process and more. #TriviaTuesday will return the week after. Namaste!
