Welcome back to #BehindTheScenes everyone! Today, the last until September, is all about the movies or segments called movies. The good, the bad and everything in between. I love all kinds of genres, hence a new list. Not favorites, of course, but ones I've enjoyed. Talk about yours in the comments!
The Lord of the Rings trilogy - Not The Hobbit, which I thought was butchered. No, the Peter Jackson controlled Lord of the Rings, with Elijah Wood, Liv Taylor, Hugo Weaving, etc. These movies came out when I was in middle and high school, and I had already read the books when I was really small. I did not see The Fellowship of the Ring in theaters, but the last two, I did. I get that they were made for a modern audience and Peter Jackson was using a lot of creative license, but watching an epic fantasy on the screen, with a bunch of actors I loved, was an absolute delight. The plot was easy to follow, there was plenty of action AND scenes from the book came alive with awesome graphics. What more can I say?
The Grateful Dead Movie - Haha. This one makes me smile because of the memories with my father. He got this movie for me from a head shop when I was in high school. It was on VHS (yes, I still have it). The initial animation and then the concert was a treat. I am not going to argue the drug culture behind most of the bands of the era. I will agree that it did MAKE the band, and it shows. And this was 100% Jerry Garcia's project? Groovy!
History of the World, Part 1 - It's Mel Brooks. Need I say more? And if you don't know him, LOOK THIS MAN UP. He is a legend. Once you do, you will understand his movies. They are offensive and crass...and absolutely hilarious. But in this film, Brooks again makes fun of himself and history itself. From the Roman Empire (and mighty joint) to the French Revolution (where it's good to be the king!), he leads us on an alternative history that pokes fun at the darkest times. I do warn: if you cannot do dark humor, don't watch it.
That's it, everyone! I hope to catch everyone later this year, when Calvin goes back to school. Namaste! Have a great summer!
