A Few Thoughts Today

Today is designated as Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Usually, a lot of people have this day off (schools included). It's almost as thoughtless as Memorial Day or Labor Day. So, the question remains: what does this day mean to you?

This is nothing political or social, just philosophical. Mr. King stated many good things, but he was a human too. He talked about having a dream, of equality and justice. In his most famous speech at the Lincoln Memorial in 1963, he also stated:

"But there is something that I must say to my people, who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice: in the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence."

To you, what does that mean? Does it mean to always take sides? To be silent? To find a common ground? To blame someone else for the woes faced by everyday people? To be bitter and never take action?

Let's take a step back and not remember that we are divided by race, wealth, politics and religion. We must remember that in our dreams, we cannot be hateful. We must conquer them through determination and faith. We also cannot stand on another's back in success. We have to be grateful for who helped us and why.

Politics and religion aside, take a moment today to remember what your dreams are. I hope that they are as fruitful! Remember where you came from and where you are going. Life doesn't have a straight and narrow pathway. It is always run with zigzags, side paths and rocky trails. And people and ideas change. Always grow!

Anyway, other than reflection, today is a day in which to be grateful for. It is a cold day here in CT, but I do not mind. If I have family and home, I am happy always. And that is what matters to me.

I will try to update here more often too. I find that little bits of news on social media is fun. But it is best to always get my thoughts out here as well.

I have very few updates right now. I am searching for someone artistic or good with digital mapping. MN event might be cancelled due to construction in the area (more on that later). SC is still on and I am sending more information to the bookstore. And Casting Shadows is coming along nicely.

I hope you all have a wonderful day. Merry meet. Namaste.
